RELEASE PARTY AT GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL IN SAN FRANCISCO ON JULY 26TH
WEST COAST TOUR PLANNED THROUGH SEPTEMBER
“For a newly formed five-piece act, Tumbleweed Wanderers sound polished. The members, some of whom have played together since adolescence, have a remarkable rapport — good enough, at least, to sing in constant three-part harmony. Their music is hooky and well-crafted, bolstered by its rich orchestration: banjo, trumpet, harmonica, organ, and a battery of drums.” — East Bay Express
San Francisco, CA – Bay Area quintet, Tumbleweed Wanderers announce the release of their debut long playing album, “So Long,” produced by John Vanderslice (Spoon, Mountain Goats) at his San Francisco studio, Tiny Telephone (Death Cab For Cutie, Magnetic Fields). The band sings seamlessly in sunshine infused five part harmonies reminiscent of the early 1970s in Laurel Canyon with a hint of Haight-Ashbury era San Francisco and is peppered with contemporary indie rock undertones.
The album kicks off with “No Longer Waiting” — which begins as sparse and acoustic song lamenting lost love accented with a lone harmonica wail and slide guitar and then kicks into full force with the punch of the full drum kit all and five voices singing in unison, “Darlin’ I, can’t bear the ride, after all, I’ve tried.”
“Take it Back” brings in the band’s indie rock feeling with an energetic guitar lick and a perfectly locked-in-step rhythm section and again highlights the bands’ vocal harmonies. “Roll With The Times” is the bands’ lyrical and sonic take on the late sixties juxtaposed with the current economic and cultural climate of the United States as they sing, “I don’t wanna be a soldier, that’s for sure…you gotta roll with the times.”
Check out the band performing “So Long Blues” outside of the Greek Theater in Berkley, CA
As they each contribute their voice to the blend that gives Tumbleweed Wanderers their distinct sound, each band member commented on what “So Long” means to them. In their own they explain, Jeremy: “This is an honest album with a lot of ambition. It’s about growing up and taking agency over ones life.” Dan: “I like that this is an album rather than a collection of songs. The only thing I can listen to after one track is the next.” Rob: “This album represents all of my favorite sides of music, live and raw performance.” Pat: “There were a lot of burritos involved in the making of this record”
Live 105 named Tumbleweed Wanderers one of “5 New Bay Area Bands You Need To Know: Summer 2012” and cheers, “Barely old enough to get into the venues they perform at, this young group does not stop. It’s highly likely to see Tumbleweed Wanders playing a packed club date one night and busking outside of The Greek Theatre the next night.”
Tumbleweed Wanderers was founded in 2011 by Jeremy Lyon and Zak Mandel-Romann and got their start in the Bay Area by busking outside of packed concert halls. Their busking and non-stop touring — including a sold out show at San Francisco’s famed club, Bottom of the Hill — led the band to selling two thousand copies of their debut EP. The release of “So Long” builds on this excitement and hopes to propel the band even further with tour dates throughout the west coast and performances at festivals such as Outside Lands in San Francisco and Yarmony Grass Festival in Rancho Del Rio, CO.
